East Of England 2008 Critique

My first championship appointment in this breed. I was a little disappointed at the overall quality although pleased with my winners. I found that yellow eyes & terrible flat feet seemed to be the norm, what has happened to the good feet & eye colour. The plus side revealed better toplines & tail carriages, but please do try to correct these faults.

PD (5,2a) 1 Hird’s Cloweswood Acer, nice head & front on this young dog, flexible pasterns, correct body balance & shape for age, arch over loin & good quarters, moved well, very promising young dog. BP; 2 Shannon’s Erewhon Dambuster, strong head, good reach of neck & well laid shoulders. Correct front but feet could be better, as he develops will benefit from additional exercise & road work, moved rather erratic on this occasion; 3 Parsons & McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Finnan.

JD (2,1) 1 Hawkins’ Kwaricott Asclepius, good shaped head with dark pigmentation, straight front, flat bone & plenty of heart & lung room, good topline with arch over loin. Good shape overall but does not need to grow on, but just obtain his maturity. Moved very erratic, needs to settle more on the move.

GD (5,1) 1 Peach’s Kilbourne Firechief, mature dog with good head, plenty of substance throughout, correct angulation & shape, very well balanced, moved well by competent handler, nice Deerhound who will improve as he develops to full maturity; 2 Harrison’s Beardswood Osprey, has a very good outline standing, but needs more co-ordination on the move. Good head, shoulders & front, well angulated, good first & second thigh. Can do better once he gets his act together, a very promising Deerhound; 3 Harrison’s Beardswood Oscar.

PGD (11) 1 Helps’ Greyfriars Gille of Beardswood, young dog nearing full maturity, good head & pigmentation, strong neck of good length, well laid shoulders with adequate front of correct proportions, good depth of chest, very shapely throughout. Feel he will get better as he fully develops, very athletic type with excellent movement, very sound; 2 Barter’s Brutus Fraxinus of Ehlaradawn, typical head, neck & shoulders of correct proportions, straight front, good angulation, shapely topline & quarters, moved well; 3 Trotman & Dockree’s Regalflight Princequillo of Penherald.

LD (7) 1 Cheshire’s Neroche Hennessy of Deeranwith, Deerhound of quality, good head & dark eye, typical faraway look, excellent pigmentation, nicely folded thin ears, adequate neck into first class shoulders, straight front, plenty of depth of chest with good shape all round, backline good with slight rise over loin & excellent quarters which showed in his free flowing positive movement. RCC; 2 Spence’s Rossly Magi among Shagiead, excellent hound, slightly heavier than 1 but has quality all round. In super condition, moved soundly & with drive; 3 Owen & Brodie’s Wolfcastle Wood Melick.

OD (9,3) 1 Helps’ Beardswood Marmion, top size of Standard, very sound & in excellent condition, well muscled up, good angulations, moved very well by experienced handler, quality Deerhound which one comes to expect from this kennel, very nice. CC; 2 Peach’s Ch Greyflax The Mighty Quinn to Kilbourne, very sound Deerhound, correct bone, good reach of neck, excellent shoulders, front assembly correct, very well balanced throughout, moved with drive by good handler; 3 Phillips & Peach’s Wild West Von Der Oelmuehle.

PB (5,3) 1 Shannon’s Erewhon Spellbinder, nice young bitch beginning to show promise, has good head, shoulders & front, very well proportioned all round. Would have preferred a better topline, ie arch over loin. Moved well, one for the future; 2 Hird’s Cloweswood Rosa, much lighter than 1, nice shape & balance all round. Needs time to develop which will be to her advantage. Promising youngster.

JB (5,2) 1 Phillips’ Ladygrove Belle Star, very elegant & athletic type that shows she is developing on the correct lines to finish well, good angulation & balance all round, will make a very competitive bitch, very nice young Deerhound; 2 Peach’s Witch Way to Kilbourne, nice young bitch from this successful line, good head, strong neck, good shoulders & nice front, correct body shape all round, moved well; 3 Parsons & McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Mallie. GB (7,2) 1 Owen & Brodie’s Marandike Ebony’s Choice to Wolfscastle, nice bitch, first class head, neck & shoulders, good angulation all round, very competitive young lady, correct length & depth of body, super muscletone & correct feet, moved very well to take this good class, very promising; 2 Helps’ Beardswood Octavia, slightly shorter coupled than 1 but shows quality in her overall conformation, very elegant & shapely, moved soundly & well; 3 Bunce’s Packway Starting Price at Pantawick.

PGB (8,2) 1 Grimshaw’s Jamalison Melody, showed & moved well to take this good class, good head, eye & length of neck into first class shoulders, good body depth, correct flat bone, topline with arch over loin, good first & second thigh, in nice condition, moved very well & soundly; 2 Bailey’s Greyflax Milly Molly Mandy, shapely feminine bitch who meets the Standard correctly, moved well & shows elegance in her flowing movement; 3 Janson’s Nixophel Crystal Amethyst.

LB (14,4) 1 Girling’s Pyefleet Rokesby, quality bitch, lovely head & first class neck, shoulders & front, has the appearance of a toned athlete, conformation all first class, good backline & very good quarters, well muscled up, correct angulation, smooth free flowing movement covering the ground with ease. RCC; 2 Macbean’s Killoeter Leyla, similar to 1, athletic type, very powerful & racy, good shape & conformation all round, moved very smoothly by experienced handler; 3 Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight A Box Of Dreams.

OB (8,1) 1 Bailey’s Ch Greyflax Waterloo Sunset, what a lovely example of the breed this bitch is, super head, dark eye, small neat ears, good neck & shoulders, excellent angulation all round, moved with drive, showing elegance while moving & covering the ground with ease, a Deerhound of quality. CC & BOB; 2 Hird’s Ch Claonaiglen Albyn at Cloweswood, quality bitch in nice condition, very elegant & sound, shapely & well muscled, moved with drive, pushed very close to top honours; 3 Johnson’s Modhish Lilly Langtree.
